The Beast’s Pets Do Not Care for You So Much: Poems

Through whose eyes do you know this story?
When you read it, whose voice do you hear in your head?

With graceful wit and candor, Alice Mullin probes these questions, flipping narratives we think we know inside out and upside down to reveal insights that have been there all along, if only we had thought to look.

Throughout The Beast’s Pets Do Not Care for You So Much, she invokes the personas of the most maligned archetypes in storytelling—the villains, the sidekicks, the sidekicks-of-villains—imagining the world through their eyes and filling in their overlooked internal lives. The result is a slim but seductive volume of poetry that cackles with humor and crackles with intensity.

Alice Mullin is a poet and cartoonist who walks dogs for a living and often dreams about breathing underwater. This is her first collection of poetry.
